Casio entered the wristwatch market with the launch of its first mens watch bacin in November 1974 in a period where the potential of digital technology was just being discovered. Casio utilized it’s expertise in developing leading-edge electronic pocket calculators, to enter the watch market, confident that it could rise to the position of market leader.

When Casio began to develop its own sports wrist watches, it based its initial premis on the essential question: “What is a wrist watch?” when it could easily have just produced a digital version of the standard convential mechanical watch. Casio thought the perfect watch should be a device that displays each facet of time in a consistant way. From this, Casio would create a sports watch that could display the exact time down to the milisecond that included months, days, hours, minutes and seconds, not to metion a.m., p.m. and day of the week. This was unheard of at the time and so began the Casio sports watch story.
