Doing regular exercises or participating in any sports regularly has very beneficial effects on our body systems. It is seen that regular the sportsmen have a healthy and good digestive, respiratory and excretory system. The vital body organs like brain, heart, kidneys, liver and stomach are working fine and smoothly when you are playing regular games.

In this short article, I would like to give you top 7 secrets and ideas for a good diet that will help you to keep yourself fit. I will also try to talk about some myths about diets and dieting.

1)	Should You Skip Your Meals? Skipping a meal is not recommended for good health or for dieting. This will not help to lose weight or to keep healthier. Instead take lesser food in your meal that should be a balanced diet. You will notice in every fast weight loss program, skipping your meals is not suggested.

2)	Use High Fibres Foods: Your meals must include the high fibre food items. This will keep you away from heart diseases, diabetes and other chronic diseases. Examples of foods rich in fibre are vegetables, fruits, cereals, beans, whole-grain breads etc

3)	What To Take In Meat? You can take meat and flesh for proteins for your body. The best meat for your health skin removed chicken meat, fish, lean beef and turkey breast etc. Try to avoid the fattier meats.

4)	Vitamin D Intake: It is recommended to take 3 servings of Vit.D containing food, everyday. Examples are fat free milk, cheese and yogurt. The supplements of vitamin D and calcium are also available in the market and you can take them too. This will also help you in teeth whitening and strong gums and teeth.

5)	Vitamin B12: Vitamin B12 is also very necessary for your body health. You must take some quantity of food items that are vitaminB12-fortified.

6)	You Can Take Health Snacks: Snacks are not always bad. You can take some healthy snacks like whole wheat crackers, low fat cheese, low sodium soup, dried apricots etc. The snacks that are rich in fast sugar are not good for your health. The examples of non-healthy snacks are soda, cakes, chips and candies etc.

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” as the clique goes, but is there any truth to it?
While no fruit or anything else can guarantee perfect health and wellness, an apple is a great addition to your diet for many reasons. For instance, the basic apple is an excellent source of dietary fiber with about 3 grams per piece of fruit. This is 10% of your daily recommended intake. Since an apple contain both soluble and insoluble fiber it will lower your LDL cholesterol (the bad sort) and help you stay regular.

The pectin found in apples also helps remove toxins: heavy metals, lead and mercury from your system. An apple is also low in calories and fills you up making you feel fuller while getting less fat. In one recent study it was discovered that eating an apple 15 minutes prior to midday made people eat 187 calories less at lunch than participants who went apple-less. In addition apples area also great for your teeth and gums and to top it all off – of course they taste great too!

Science has discovered a vicious cycle, where overeating triggers a metabolic response normally dormant in the hypothalamus, a structure in the middle part of the brain which functions to regulate appetite feeding behavior, energy and therefore body-weight balance and metabolic process.

Excessive amounts of calories can trigger this response which when induced can promote overeating leading to increased levels of over-consumption.

The study was conducted in mice, but the authors of a paper published in the Oct. 3 issue of Cell believe that the finding apply to humans as well.

Finding a way to suppress this response may prove a potent weapon in the fight against the current obesity epidemic that has hit the U.S.
Obesity leads to inherent problems such as heart disease and even cancer.

Senior author of the paper Dr. Dongsheng Cai speaks of the shortcomings of normal strategies for fighting obesity, namely diet and exercise:

“Exercise and diet may correct abnormal brain regulation [but] long-term food control is very difficult,” said Cai, an assistant professor of physiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. “We don’t understand why. . . The first important thing to understand is how the dysregulation of the brain is processed. The study we just did provides a new pathway. It’s the opening of a new direction.”

To read more about this interesting study, follow the link.

My Thoughts: In my opinion, the oversupply of food in Western countries, the wrong types of foods in particular (high-sugar, high-fat junk food with low nutritional value) has done much to degrade health in the West.

When we lived in caves we hunted and did not always eat until we felt full every day. Sure, some days we would catch something and have a feast, but this did not happen every day and sometimes we would endure days without food.

Yet we got by and survived to modern times, which would indicate that from an evolutionary point of view we are designed to live from day to day a little under-fed. I also think we are biologically wired to over-indulge whenever food becomes available – heck, as a cavemen we would not know when our next meal was going to be, so it would be in our best interest to top up our fat supplies at every available opportunity!

In modern times, with abundant food available, we no longer need to feel hungry, but biologically we have not changed much (if at all), so we remain inclined to stuff our mouths whenever we see food.

Add to this our lovely capitalist system that rewards food companies for giving people what they want rather than what is actually best for them – food companies are just not rewarded for serving healthy food, so it amplifies the problem quite nicely.

Fortunately there is a bright side… While long-term food control is very difficult to achieve, just ask anyone who’s tried and failed at several weight loss programs… There are a couple of important factors in our favor… namely willpower and determination and a third is knowledge.

The good news is, as humans we have proven ourselves time and time again to possess willpower and determination to achieve scores of truly remarkable things – when we set our minds to it. We have landed a man on the moon, cured scores of diseases, built skyscrapers, split atoms, sailed vast oceans and discovered new lands.

As humans, unlike any other creatures, we are capable of change in the face of incredible odds and no matter how many unfortunate things happen, as humans we can achieve great things.

So if we want to lose a little weight, we’re lucky, because we’ve got willpower and determination working for us. The willpower to head to the local grocery store to stock up on fruit and vegetables, instead of a Big Mac. The determination to set diet goals and stick to them!

As for knowledge, we are in the information age and unlike any other time in history, we got the internet and an incredible wealth of information at our fingertips!

So on the net or drop into your local library and you have all the information you need to get yourself on a healthy and balanced diet.

Head over to WeightLossTipsForBeginners.com to learn about healthy weight loss methods and much more about weight loss and dieting.

A Vegan Diet may reduce cardiovascular disease in diabetics more than the diet recommended by the American Diabetes Association (ADA), a new study has uncovered.

For 22 weeks, both men and women participants all with type 2 diabetes followed either a low-fat, low-glycemic vegan diet or the ADA guidelines.

Researches measured the participants Alternate Healthy Eating Index (AHEI) score at the beginning and end of the 22 week trial. The AHEI is a nine-component dietary index used to rate foods and macro-nutrients related to chronic disease risk. The higher the AHEI score, the lower the risk of cardiovascular disease.

At the end of the trial the vegan diet group significantly improved their AHEI score and in every AHEI category, whereas the ADA group did not, however neither diet resulted in adequate intake of vitamins D and E, or in calcium.

Past research has shown a correlation between AHEI and cardiovascular disease.

The vegan diet involves increased intake of vegetables, fruits, nut and soy protein and cereal fiber and a decrease in trans fat intake.

For a long time, Cereal has been regarded a quick and healthy eating choice. But a new report has suggested that this is not universally true according to a references from an article on the sugar content on Kid’s cereals. New studies conducted by ConsumerReports.org have even revealed that some choices are the nutritional equivalent of a doughnut in a bowl.

In the report, 27 of the most heavily marketed to children breakfast cereals were evaluated for sugar content, sodium, fiber, calories and nutrients in a recommended serving. The major offenders are Post’s Golden Crisps and Kellogg’s Honey Smacks than deliver 50% sugar and very little dietary fiber. The 15 grams of sugar contained in a 3/4 cup serving of Honey Smacks has 3 more grams than is found in a Dunkin Donuts glazed doughnut!

Overall 11 of the tested cereals had 12 or more grams of sugar per serving, or the equivalent of a glazed doughnut. This is alarming when you consider parents often buy cereal believing it a healthy choice for their children. In actual fact many popular cereal brands contribute more to weight gain and obesity than providing adequate nutrients.

Four of the tested cereals were judged “Very Good” because of relatively low sugar and sodium, some fiber, high in iron and calcium. Medical Advisor Orly Avitzur, MD, reports that any of these cereals served with milk and a piece of fruit represents a good breakfast choice.

They are:

Cheerios (General Mills), with just 1 gram of sugar, 3 grams of fiber, and 190 milligrams of sodium

Kix (General Mills), with 3 grams of sugar, 3 grams of fiber, and 210 milligrams of sodium

Life (Quaker Oats), with 6 grams of sugar, 2 grams of fiber, and 160 milligrams of sodium

Honey Nut Cheerios (General Mills), with 9 grams of sugar, 2 grams of fiber, and 190 milligrams of sodium

And the Worst Rated Cereals…

Post’s Golden Crisp, 14 grams of sugar, 25mg sodium, 1 gram of fibre

Kellogg’s Honey Smacks, 15 grams of sugar, 50mg sodium, 1 gram fibre

Cap’n Crunch’s Peanut Butter Crunch (Quaker Oats), with 9 grams of sugar, 1 gram of fiber and 200 mg of sodium

Cap’n Crunch (Quaker Oats), with 12 grams of sugar, 1 gram of fiber, and 200 milligrams of sodium

Apple Jacks (Kellogg), with 12 grams of sugar, less than 1 gram of fiber, and 135 milligrams of sodium

Froot Loops (Kellogg), with 12 grams of sugar, less than 1 gram of fiber, and 135 milligrams of sodium

Corn Pops (Kellogg), with 12 grams of sugar, no fiber, and 110 milligrams of sodium in a 1 cup serving

Kellogg’s Rice Krispies 4 grams of sugar per serving high in sodium and had no fiber 0, 170mg of sodium

A spokeswoman from Kellogg responded to the report, by noting that the company has recently reformulated five of its cereals included in the Consumer Reports investigation to make them healthier choices.

While these reformulated cereals began to appear on grocery store shelves in June, Honey Smacks was a notable omission and according to Consumer Reports, even with the reformulation, the five cereals – Froot Loops, Corn Pops, Rice Krispies, Cocoa Krispies, and Apple Jacks – would still score poorly in a nutrition rating compared to other choices.

Consumer Reports nutrition Ratings are based on scores for energy density (the calorie concentration for the amount of food) and nutrients, including fat, saturated fat, trans fat, sodium, sugars, iron, calcium, and dietary fiber. High dietary fiber is 5 grams or more per serving. A level of 1 teaspoon of sugar per serving was assigned for low sugar. Low sodium is considered to be 140 milligrams or less. All cereals were lowfat. The nutrition score reflects a balance between the amount of beneficial nutrients, such as fiber and calcium, and those that should be limited, such as sugar, sodium, and fat.
